Cay Taylor, MT-BC

As a board-certified music therapist, Cay Taylor has served children and adults with a broad range of developmental, neurological, and physical differences. She earned her Bachelor of Music Therapy degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Loyola University New Orleans in 2004. Her clinical training included work in private practice (The Center for Music Therapy in Austin, TX), hospitals, schools, psychiatric facilities, hospice, and community centers.

Cay has experience applying neurologic, behavioral, and psychotherapeutic music therapy techniques according to client needs.  She completed Neurologic Music Therapy training at the Robert F. Unkefer Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy at Colorado State University.  Cay is an Advanced (Level III) Trainee in The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music through Appalachian State University. Cay's overall music therapy approach is person-centered so that each therapeutic interaction and music experience is safe and supportive of every individual.

Cay developed the music therapy programs and served as music therapist at the STARS Preschool Intervention Program at the Jewish Community Center of Houston for 7 years and at The Monarch Institute for Neurological Differences for 10 years. During her tenure at Monarch, Cay served as music therapy internship clinical director, presented interactive professional workshops, and collaborated with area arts organizations to coach artists in integrating music in special needs programming. Currently, Cay practices music therapy as part of her private practice, Firefly Music Studio, and at The HUB Houston. She was a staff songwriter at Purple Songs Can Fly, a unique program at Texas Children's Cancer Center that enables children to work with professional songwriters to compose and record original songs. Cay also served as a program creator, Music 4 Everyone research consultant, and guest lecturer with Young Audiences of Houston and Methodist Hospital's Center for Performing Arts Medicine (CPAM). Cay recognizes music's inherent potential to empower and transform lives as it has her own, and she passionately shares the gift of music as an innovative, therapeutic medium!

In addition to serving as a clinical music therapist, Cay operates a private voice studio, a wing of Firefly Music Studio.  You can also find Cay on stage nearly every weekend of the year at Houston's only musical comedy cabaret, The Music Box Theater.  Established in May 2011, TMBT provides a unique mix of live popular music and original comedy in a comfortable, intimate atmosphere.

Cay is daily inspired by her amazing network of family, friends, colleagues, and clients - creative, courageous people that fill this sweet life with joy!
